Food and Wine Pairing Guidelines

Posted in: General News, News by Bennie Gusnowsky on September 9, 2010

Simple rules to get started pairing food and wine.

Drink what you like.

What you like to drink always takes precedence over any recommendation that we might make but don’t be scared to broaden your horizon. If you try a varietal you’re not fond of, try it again from a different country and producer. Every winemakers’ palate and terroir is different. You will be amazed how much difference there can be. Who knows? You may find your next favourite!

2nd Year in a Row for Okanagan Winery!

From “Out of Nothing” Ex Nihilo Vineyards of Lake Country BC takes Gold at the 2010 Riesling Du Monde in France for the 2nd year in a row! Regarded as one of the most prestigious wine competitions in the world, Ex Nihilo Vineyards decided to enter their 2008 Riesling after winning Gold with their 2007. “We knew we once again had a great Alsatian style Riesling, but were still crossing our fingers as the results came in as we know it is a fierce competition.” Managing Partner Decoa Harder claimed. The world class Riesling Du Monde Competition was held in Strasbourg, France March 13th – 15th, 2010. With wineries from around the world entering their top Rieslings, for a total of almost 600 entries, Ex Nihilo received a Gold Medal.

Decoa and Jeff Harder together with their partners Twila and Jay Paulson are jubilant with their recent win. “This is a grand accolade for our winery and team, but most importantly it lets our customers know that we are making some of the World’s best wines consistently! Canada should be proud of their accomplishments in the Wine World,” commented Jeff Harder. “This medal comes at a very exciting time as we are just one month away from the official Grand Opening of our brand new Tasting Room and Winery Facility.”

Ex Nihilo Vineyards, latin for meaning ‘out of nothing’, produces Pinot Gris, Riesling, Merlot and a Bordeaux style red named Night. The winery is located just north of Kelowna in Lake Country and overlooks the beautiful Lake Okanagan. The Grand Opening is scheduled for May 1st and 2nd.
